The island of Murter situated in the central Adriatic administratively belonging to the Šibenik-Knin County. It is located between two urban centres Zadar (50 km or 23 Nm) and Šibenik (30 km or 18 Nm), two National Parks: Kornati and Krka, and two Parks of Nature: Telašćica and Vransko Jezero. Its connection to the mainland by a little bridge in Tisno, makes this island privileged amongst other Adriatic islands. On the other hand, it's extraordinarily indented coastline and the size of aquatorium, as well its inhabitants' property possession on neighbouring islands that is 18 times larger than on Murter, make this island the most «islandish» of all Adriatic islands.

Murter is a small town located on the western part of the island of Murter. With more than 160 islands and almost 400 km long coastline, it is the largest insular municipality in Mediterranean. The first written documents mentioning settlement Murter come from the year 1285 when it was called 'Villa Magna' - the big village - that turned into Srimač later on. The island itself was mentioned in naval charts in the year 1318 as Insula Mortari that changed in time under the influence of the local dialect into Murter.
In order to survive, inhabitants of Murter had to cast off to the neighbouring islands, as Murter was populated by inhabitants from hinterland who fled from the Turks.

In the beginning of 17th century, residents of Murter establish agreements with farmers to use their land in Kornati and become the only owners of Kornati islands by the end of 19th century when they bought them off. Upon acquisition of Kornati islands, residents of Murter move from hills to the waterfront, and the bay Hramina becomes the first and the largest marina in the Adriatic in 19th century.
Marina Hramina, where the company Jarušica Ltd. is located, continues this rich tradition today. It has 400 sea berths and 250 dry berths. Its service meets the needs and wants of the most demanding yachtsmen.

Leaving the port of marina Hramina, you will reach Kornati archipelago in only 9 Nm. The attractive aquatorium offers two ACI marinas – Piškera and Žut, and many peaceful bays in the intact nature with flawlessly clear sea.

Murter is the best choice for starting point if you wish to sail up to the far North or South of Croatian Adriatic.
